Character sketch of Elizabeth Lavenza

Elizabeth Lavenza is the female protagonist in the novel of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”. She is an adopted sister and a wife of Frankenstein. She was found by Caroline on the streets and was taken by the family to satisfy their void of unhappiness life with no siblings to offer to Frankenstein. She married Frankenstein and cared as a motherly figure after Caroline died. She plays an important role in the novel and she is the supporting character throughout the novel till she died.

She becomes a house caretaker after Frankenstein’s mother died. She literally cared for the entire family and always gives information about the family affairs to Frankenstein when he was away from house to Ingolstadt. She informs in her letters about the murder of William and Justine has been accused of William’s murder. She becomes a supporting character in the novel when she believes in the loyalty of Frankenstein and Justine. One can analyze the fact that she cares for the family and displays loyal sensibility to every family members.

Elizabeth Lavenza can be looked upon as a disguise of Mary Shelley herself. It can be noted when she states that she cannot trust any man now since she thinks that every man is thirsty for the blood of other men. She states that after the death of William and it is quite personal in its tone because PB Shelley was murdered and she literally put out her anger in the novel which becomes subjective of her feelings and thoughts. Elizabeth Lavenza as a character was developed unusually in the novel but she was killed by the creature. The creature said that he will come to Frankenstein on her wedding night and she was taken by the creature for he wanted a companion to live.
